Due to extenuating circumstances, we have taken the difficult decision to cancel the Indonesia Summit 2023. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused. We thank you for your interest in the event and the topics covered in this year’s event agenda remain of great interest to us. We are committed to continuing the conversation on opportunities in Indonesia via articles on The Economist website. Join us for the 5th Indonesia Summit Indonesia’s post-covid economic recovery is gaining momentum, and the blossoming innovation economy has the potential to promote long-term, stable prosperity. The country boasts a large population of young, technologically literate and upwardly mobile citizens, which has resulted in a thriving e-commerce sector. Growth in the fintech industry is increasing financial inclusion, enabling entrepreneurs to benefit. Meanwhile, the country’s vast resources of copper and nickel have attracted the attention of electric vehicle makers and their supply chains. How can Indonesia sustain these positive trends? How can the country climb the value chain globally, leverage the mobility of global talent and also develop indigenous human capital? Is the most recent omnibus legislation enough to maintain investment momentum? How should Indonesia better leverage regional partnerships to speed its emergence from the current broad-based economic challenges and pave the way to future prosperity? What policies will meaningfully accelerate digital transformation and enable SMEs? Building on a successful legacy of Indonesia Summits, the 2023 edition will bring together 150 business leaders, policymakers, academics and NGOs in-person in Jakarta-plus 1,500 online-for rigorous discussion and debate on the most important issues. IndonesiaHR Summit, Jakarta, Indonesia. 311 suka · 2 membicarakan ini. The Most Prestigious HR Event in Indonesia Being a sponsor at the Indonesia HR Summit in Jogjakarta was truly exciting! Although I have managed ManpowerGroup's participation in several events before, this one stood out with its size, impact, geographical location, and lessons which will definitely have an impact on my career 1- Learning starts with copying On my way from the airport in Jogjakarta, I saw 2 restaurants which imitated in their name and logo the all famous Kentucky Fried Chicken KFC chain, namely California Pioneer Chicken CFC and Giant Fried Chicken GFC. Initially, as a marketer, that situation infuriated me. How could these 2 restaurants imitate such a big and reputable brand which has invested millions in branding? But then, after seeing more examples of imitation in the shops and streets of the city, I remembered that the essence of innovation, learning, and entrepreneurship is in taking what is already successful in the market and improve it so that it suits the needs of your customer better. That includes not only the product or service, but also everything around them such as marketing communication materials. 2- Small = Flexible and Agile Few days before my trip to the summit, I found out that Uber is starting food catering service in Kuala Lumpur which I thought was an innovative and forward thinking diversification. Yet you can imagine my surprise when right before our Country Manager conducted his speech on alternative talent pools, Ms. Monica Oudang from a company called GO-JEK Uber copycat, told us that GO-JEK added 15 more services to their initial transportation app! In addition to the “innovative” food catering service, they added options such as medicine delivery, market and grocery shopping, massage service, online payment service, and other services. My surprise was then substituted with a well-known fact startups are far more flexible and fast in modifying their services or products than big publicly listed corporations. So how can the startup culture be maintained when a company grows I wonder… 3- Convenience is what gives a competitive advantage Most exhibitors at the summit were tech companies offering HR systems to potential buyers. Personally, it was very difficult for me to see true differentiation or competitive advantage between their products. In such a situation, a rational business buyer will go for the cheapest offer since all the systems seem rather similar. However, remembered what Gary Vaynerchuk once said that “convenience” is what customers are looking for today. RAMCO in my opinion is standing out in that regard as their payroll system for example can be used in over 35 countries. This means that for an international company, RAMCO can be convenient by implementing the same system across all company offices in different geographical locations. I bet these clients don’t mind paying RAMCO a premium. 4- We are witnessing a skills revolution The summit affirmed my conviction that we are loving in a light speed changing environment. This means that we are witnessing a skills revolution where the skills that I have today, might not be relevant 2, 3, or 5 years from now. Therefore, learnability is the most important skill one can have today. 5- We are hungry for conversations Despite our digital contentedness, I noticed that many people are hungry for natural and physical conversations. During the summit, I had the honor to talk with wonderful and smart people such as Prakash Ramnath, Eugene Low, Dahlia Sutrisno, and off course my boss Sam Haggag. I had the pleasure to discuss topics related to politics, economic systems, analytics, artificial intelligence, automation, philosophy, leadership, teaching, history, and my favorite marketing. I tapped into other people’s experiences and opinions which broadened my vision and opened my eyes to new ideas. These conversations for me are invaluable! All in all, it was a fantastic trip with lots of learning and questions to ponder about. I am looking forward for my next adventure! Backto Indonesia HR Summithe summit in 2017.
